Psychotherapy in New York

You don't have to have it all together, all the time.

You may be doing everything that's expected of you, yet feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply exhausted from holding so much together.

Here, you can slow down and talk openly about what's going on, without having to explain it perfectly or figure it out alone.

I'm Ioanna, and I'd be glad to help you find your way forward, at a pace that feels right for you.

Online therapy for adults, teens and couples in New York.

You might recognize yourself here

Does any of this feel familiar?

You don't need to wait until things become unbearable to seek support. And you don't need to know exactly what you need from therapy. We can begin by talking about what's been happening and what you'd like to feel different.

You don't have to be successful, productive, or particularly good at coping to deserve support.

Working together

What it's like to talk with me.

I'm warm, curious, and genuinely interested in understanding you, not just the problem that brought you here.

Our conversations can be thoughtful and serious, but they don't always have to feel heavy. There is room for uncertainty, emotion, reflection, and even humor when it feels natural.

I won't expect you to arrive with a neatly organized story. Some days we might explore something difficult. Other days, we might simply try to make sense of a week that felt overwhelming.

I'll listen carefully, ask questions, share what I notice, and work alongside you. I can be gentle, and I can also help you look at patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

Above all, I want you to feel that you can show up as you are.

A little about me

I understand pressure from the inside.

Before I became a counselor, I spent twenty years in finance and eight as an entrepreneur, building, scaling and exiting a regulated financial analytics platform.

What stayed with me was what I kept noticing in the people around me: how anxiety and ambition feed each other, how perfectionism gets rewarded until it stops working, and how loss reshapes who we think we are. That curiosity took me back to graduate school, and into this work.

Questions

The things people usually ask first.

What happens in a consultation?

A short, low-pressure conversation: what is going on for you, what you are hoping for, how I work, and whether I am the right person. It is free, and there is no obligation to continue.

What are your fees, and do you take insurance?

Sessions are $130 for individual therapy and $180 for couples. Sliding-scale places are available. Cognizant Psychotherapy does not take insurance, and provides a monthly superbill you can submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions are by secure video only; I do not currently offer in-person appointments. I see clients who are physically located in New York State at the time of the session.
